Christmas Table Setting

We all love a beautifully set table and Christmas is a great time to use your imagination incorporating your own particular style.  Below we offer some tips and suggestions for setting your table, but above all let your imagination run wild and have fun with  it.

There are many different elements to setting your Christmas table, you can use all or some of them, of course the dinnerware and utensils are a must.  Other items to coordinate are, linens – your choice of tablecloth, runner, place mats, and napkins, stemware, napkin rings, centerpiece, candles and candle holders, Christmas crackers and a small gift for each guest (favor).

First decide on your theme, some suggestions are:

Winter Wonderland

Colors: To create your winter wonderland, good colors to use are ice blue, midnight blue, white and silver.  Using sparkling items will also help to create the effect along with lots of candles.
 
Other Suggestions:

  • use  small individual candles at each place setting (white works well),
  • favors - small snowmen or white sparkling Christmas balls placed on each place setting,
  • Attach a glittery snowflake or star on the top of your napkin ring. 
  • If your have a  rectangular table, have your centerpiece in the middle and on each side have intervals of small candles interspersed with larger candles. 
  • Use sparkling glitter sprinkled along your table runner.
  • Small round mirror tiles under the candles will give a lovely wintery glow.
  • Hang glittering stars or snowflakes from the chandelier.

Centerpiece Suggestion: Winter Sky or Midnight Snowfall

 

Candy Cane Theme

Colors: Red & White Stripes

Other Suggestions:

  • Candy Cane stripped candles or if not available use red and white intersperesed.
  • Red & White napkins, use one white and one red napkin napkins folder together tied with red ribbon and a bow, place candy cane through ribbon.
  • Candy Cane stripped Christmas Crackers
  • White table cloth with red table runner
  • Favors - Small glass candy cane Christmas decoration  or candy cane drink stirrer placed in each water goblet or wine glass, or small gift wrapped in white paper with a large candy cane bow

Centerpiece Suggestion: Peppermint Twist Bouquet

 

Evergreens and Wreaths

Colors: green red, gold

Other Suggestions:

  • Place sprigs of cedar or flat leaves  arranged in a wreath underneath each place setting and/or stemware.
  • Drape chandelier with evergreen boughs and hang gold Christmas balls from the chandelier
  • Make a mini wreath out of  greenery accented with a sprig of  holly for your napkin rings.
  • Place a red Christmas ball at each place setting
  • Favors of small wreath Christmas decoration or small live Christmas tree placed on each plate.

Traditional

Colors: green, red, white

Other Suggestions:

  • Favor or a small nicely wrapped gift at each place setting – gift could be a sweet or Christmas decoration
  • Evergreen and Christmas Balls hanging from the chandelier
  • Santa Ornament or Angel Ornament at each place setting
  • Large Red Bows on back of each chair
  • White table cloth, gathered with small red bows at corners of table

Other Theme Ideas:

  • Victorian - use mauves and pinks, can use old fashioned Christmas items and elegant  candles Centerpiece Suggestion: Wreath Centerpiece or Festival of Lights
  • Nativity scene -  create the nativity scene around your centerpiece and along the length of the table. Centerpiece Suggestion: Faux Angel Centerpiece or Golden Peace Bouquet
  • Contemporary -  blacks and silver are beautiful and there are lovely black ornaments available to use on the chandelier and at each place setting, Centerpiece Suggestions: Royal Christmas Centerpiece or Golden Holidays Centerpiece
  • Glittery - use a color of your choice either incorporating the colors in your room or a color you like  and use  gold and silver accents with lots of glittery items  Centerpiece Suggesions: Belle of the Ball

Other Suggestions:

  • If using hurricane lamp centerpiece, have small hurricane candles interspersed along length of table
  • Use wired ribbon or raffia for napkins holders and attach Christmas bells or balls to each.
  • Add Bows to back of  each chairs
  • Use name tags at each place setting to match your theme
  • Have small bowls of Christmas balls on each side of your centerpiece
  • Create a Christmas scene on the centre of your table
  • Use charge plates to accent your table settings
